Measuring 6.7 by 0.8 inches (HW) and weighing 3.3 ounces, the VideoMic NTG is compact and won't add too much extra heft to your camera setup. The included lightweight SM7-R shock mount is a Rycote Lyre-style build with a handsome red suspension—it features cable threading clamps to control cable slack, and its base connects to a camera via the camera's cold shoe. An adjustable sliding rail allows you to fine-tune the mic body's placement forward or backward.
The recording end of the mic has several circular, minute perforations cut into its black enclosure. A mesh grille protects the internal elements beneath—a pressure-gradient electret condenser in super cardioid pattern to deliver a frequency range of 20Hz to 20kHz, though Rode notes in its specs that the actual response of the mic is between 30Hz and 18kHz. The resulting audio is 24-bit, 48kHz. Rode claims the sonics are quite similar to its NTG5 shotgun mic, and if this is true, the VideoMic NTG, which costs far less, is a significant value.
